Del Valle is home to our original ministry, Freedom Church. Every Sunday different groups of volunteers lead a worship service alongside individuals who are residents at Austin Transitional Center. These gatherings are filled with singing, praying, teaching, sharing testimonies, and communion.
This important time of growth and mentorship for our partners is something both ATC residents and volunteer leaders look forward to every week. In addition to the worship services, Freedom Church meets resident needs such as seven-day city bus passes for new residents, special clothing for members with work permits, free reading glasses, and Bibles.
Every second and fourth Sunday of each month residents who have decided to follow Christ can go through a special process to gain approval to leave ATC for their baptism. These individuals are transported to Westover Hills Church where they join in the Sunday worship service before their baptism. Afterwards they are treated as honored guests at a “Celebration Lunch” hosted by the church, where they are joined by many members who openheartedly welcome and embrace their new Christian brothers and sisters. Approximately 75 to 100 people are baptized each year.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV
